Well after 6 years of ownership, ive just sold the best car ive ever ownned. Was just a CV8 but there is something about these cars which just get under your skin. I took my brave pills and did it on a Ebay auction with no reserve...just under £6800. Happy enough with the price but will be very sad to see it go. I know im not an active name on the forum but i do check it most days and it has been incredibly helpful during my ownership.

Now, off to find a Ro VXR in the new year so i wont be out of the fold long!

Had it for sale at 8k near the start of the year. Only one call! Then just after summer put it up for £7250 OBO and was getting offers that were just plain insulting. So auction seemed like the only way to get its "true" value. Mine isnt perfect, has a door lock issue and a trolly "ding" on the door. Reckon a mint one you could well add a grand it seems.

confused Are CV8's really that different to the VXR's? The other thread also talks specifically about VXR's appreciating.... shouldn't the thread apply to all Monaros?

I get that the VXR has some desirable features and hence fetches a premium, but they're pretty much the same car aren't they?

Given that there's a couple of VXRs out there at traders for around the £11-12K mark, I think a private sale of just under £7K for a CV8 with a couple of things to fix is about right. Private sales rarely make as much as trade sales and the difference has got to be couple of grand at this level to make it worth getting out of bed for.

I agree with you, they get under your skin. I wouldn't let my Ro VXR go unless someone could pry it from my kung fu grip.

I think the difference between the two at the end of the day is image...
The VXR costs more when new because it is fitted with upgraded HSV extras. Both models are built on the same assembly lines by the same people, then some cars are sent to HSV for completion.
However once the cars are a few years old owners tend to fit the same upgraded parts, which are usually better than stock. Its at that point the cars start to become the same again.
Well thats what I think anyway!

Traditionally, the high performance versions of any car are always more desirable and collectible, especially if the high performance models are rare (see "M" cars, "AMGs" etc). With the Monaro, however, the CV8 is hardly a cooking machine and all models are rare, so I'm not sure that the same logic applies.

I was never meant to buy a cv8 but I was having trouble finding a VXR at the time in the colour and mileage that I wanted. This cv8 came up at a great price and I thought I'll keep it a year while i search for a VXR........I only decided to part with it 6years later.lol.
Such an excellent car in every way, but I just need to scratch that 6.0 litre itch now.

The deals off now anyway. The car was sniper bid on eBay which I always new was a bit of a risk. After a few "interesting " chats with the guy who won it, it won't be going anywhere right now. Frustrating to say the least!
