5 watt wedge. Can get to the bulb by opening the boot, VXR8 might have carpet on the boot-lid you have to remove. Turn the lamp holder counter-clockwise.

As already mentioned, 12V 5W wedge bulb, just like most other cars is what you need. You will need to pull out the 12 or so black plastic clips with a flat head screwdriver and unscrew the single black clip to remove the carpet from the boot lid before you can access the bulb holders.

If replacing with LED's, be careful of the following: first off the clearance inside the rear number plate bulb holder is short, so you need a short LED array to fit in the holder. Secondly, the electrical supply to the lights isn't actually 12V, it's more like 13.5V to 14V when the engine is running. This will burn out most LEDs after a few months unless you put some resistors in series to drop the voltage back to 12V.

The lense cover can be removed with a small flat blade tool and the bulb pops out.

Lot of hassle removing lining and clips.

You're looking for T10 (which also seem to be known as 501 or W5W) bulbs. I fancied crisp white light and went through a few of the "5-SMD" types, but they have quite a lot of weight (relatively speaking) that sits outside of the holder, and all failed by physically breaking. I have two teenage boys that struggle to close the boot gently....

Replaced with the 4-SMD versions which have lasted ages.

I've never removed the holders completely. Remove all trim as Paul notes - reach in and follow wires to teh bulb holder - 1/8 turn anticlockwise and it comes out. Reverse to fit of course. Has to be done by touch - can't see.
