Hey all,

Been doing a little research since picking up the car last month. I was surprised to find there is no intercooler on my supercharged LS2. It's been charged from new as an extra when ordering in 2007. I'm taking that this means it's an older Harrop 112 charger? Is this right?

I can't seem to find any pricing or help on adding an intercooler or who offer this. I want this done first as i'd like to upgrade the pulley to up the PSI a little and have it live mapped to match. I've read a lot about Maf-less maps.

I found pricing on the parts for pulley upgrade and remapping at around 5-700 notes, but can't find anything on adding an intercooler?

Has anyone with an older charger like mine done this? Where and how much did it cost?

Thanks all,

ARAF

Does that mean yours was one of the 15 VXR500s from Greens?

If so, whilst it may be flawed, it will probably be a good idea to keep the standard parts for any future sale.

As to upgrading your 'charger, I don't think it can be done cheaply. You'll probably be better off getting a secondhand intercooled one to bolt in its place.

No, it's a VXR8.

So your saying I can't fit an intercooler to the existing set up and would have to look at replacing the charger?

Sorry, I was thinking it was a late Monaro. IIRC, there was no way of fitting an intercooler to the 112 on the Monaro, so could well be the same with your VXR8. The replacement 'charger and kit will be your cheapest option, and you can upgrade at the same time, to a 122 or 2300, which both have a larger capacity, and will reduce your need to spin the supercharger quicker.

Hi. I am guessing in an early VXR8 SC'd from new its probably an early Walkinshaw performance SC and they cannot be intercooled as retro fit. As Araf has said you will need to replace whole SC unit / set up

Thanks all.

Probably not going to change the charger in that case as thatll be a fair few grand won't it? Maybe be something in couple years as I haven't had the car 2 mins yet.

Shame though, I may looks at cams first then. Anyone done this? Maybe an older set up like mine? Monaro etc?

Done a cam on a couple of non - intercooled monaros. Adds 34-40 bhp, but thats really it as to get more mens upping the blower speed into an area where it will make to much heat.

Hmm, I was hoping there was a but more i could expliot before the cooling became an issue. I guess not frown

I'm aking it that you wouldnt recomment going to 9 PSI without an intercooler? Would better intakes help/compensate enough?

You mean an 80mm pulley? No, i wouldn't really. It will get too hot, which will reduce power and you end up pretty much where you started anyway, but with greater risk to the engine.

Is it really not intercooled? On a VXR8? Never seen that. Can you post up a pic?

I'll have to take a pic looking down the front end by the rad. It would be front mounted wouldn't it? (Sorry, still new to these cars) I'm in work at the moment. I'll post one up tomorrow :-)

I have had 2 x LS2 VXR8s in before that were not I/Cooled. They were both early WP conversions in 2007. Suprised me aswell. Basically they appeared to be similar set up to a monaro VXR500

Take a picture downwards behind the front drive pulley. IE, straight down the the boomerang aluminium casting. If its intercooled there will be 2 coolant pipes going through 90 degree fittings into the cooler cores. If not they will be capped off.

I was quoted around the £3k mark to have an inter cooler fitted to my Harrop 112 yikes
It's just not worth it ...
I have a cam fitted by AAS (but don't know the specs )and that has reduced temps dramatically
But I have had installed water injection this too has dropped temps when you give it the beans
My pulley is only the small one or 6psi didn't want to over work a hot engine by going bigger

Which ironically means you probably have a big one (oo-er), as one way to up the boost is to shrink the size of the pulley on the charger.

All our supercharger conversations have been charge cooled, we have never done a supercharger conversation without a charge cooler.. The early 112's we did were PWR not Harrop

Thats intercooled. A WP PWR installation as they indicated above.

Stick a cam, and an overdrive oulley in that and it will soon perk up. Just like the one we did earlier: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=...

The fill point for ther intercooler circuit is the cap with the red clip next to the oil filler cap. That needs replacing with a proper resevoir.

Amazing! Glad to hear its intercooled :-) Thanks all! You've helped me loads!

I have to say I'm seriously impressed with the major companies so active on this forum :-) I have no doubt I'll be doing business with you both very soon :-)

Thank you WP and MF! You are the stuff of legend.
