ESVA testing for Clubsport R8
Discussion
I'm trying to import a new HSV Clubsport R8, has anyone successfully got such a vehicle through the ESVA test? Test is seems very extreme considering I’ve just brought in x2 05 Mustang's from the US that only require the standard SVA. Is it just government red tape? Why ESVA are department of transport suggesting a LHD car (that only need a standard SVA) can be unsafe & be more polluting than a RHD car, sounds crazy to me?? Looking for advice/help please??
The LHD/RHD thing is just cos the government are puppets to the motor industry. Its to try and stop all the Jap imports. I'll stop there before i go off into one.
Enhanced SVA IS difficult, and very expensive. For most of the Jap imports you can "rent" a model report which tells you which mods to do to get it through. also means the testing fees are reduced to hundreds of pounds. try someone like www.modelreport.com.
It may be possible to get it through under the disabled route, though i don't know if this is still possible (effectively simple SVA as per yank stuff). Try speaking to www.protech-uk.co.uk. They sorted out my SSute, but it was 18 months ago.

Custom's seemed to be happy enough with the registration paper, making sure that you point out with a HUGE arrow the CTP (compulsory third party) insurance. (Assuming it is being imported from Aust.)
Will let you know what else I find on my adventures of importing my commodore. Finally in the country now, hopefully get to pick it up on thursday. YAH!

Thanks for all the reply’s & advice, looks like its impossible to commercial import a car without paying £1000's to pass the ESVA. I am trying another route by shipping a car to Cyprus, paying 10% duty in Cyprus (receive a T2L document to prove duty is paid in the EC) and have the equivalent SVA carried out, then ship to the UK (pay the 17.5% VAT). People are importing pickups for Cyprus and registering in the UK with Cypriot SVA's (Cyprus is RHD), looks like a possibility?? Going to Cyprus next month to check it out and see my contact at the test center in CY. Will let you know if it's going to work.
