Guys, I'm not into fancy plates or anything illegal but would I be right in thinking that we can shrink the front number plates to fit the bumper mounting because:

1 The vehicle does not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval
AND
2 The vehicle's construction/design cannot accomodate standard size number plates

I'm only asking due to mine sticking out by several inches at either side and flapping around - nothing to do with trying to reduce the change of being caught by a hidden scamera van working in the guise of "road safety" HAH !!

I had mine made to fit correctly into the recess and it's passed it's MOT twice, the character spacing/size are legal so no problems.

Recc: www.gtgrafix.com/
as one of the best suppliers of quality plates (they do not de-laminate with jet wahes) and you design them on line to suit.

working on the text size shown in the document an average 7 digit new style reg number would fit on an 380mm long plate (will that fit the space?)

Yup the space is 390mm long and my current plate measures 520mm so over hangs by over 2.5 inches at each end.

Nice website link V8HSV - thanks

Excellent news. One of the first things I did was see if I could get a smaller legal front plate and under the post 2001 rules, I couldn't.

Didn't realise we could sneak in under the no whole vehicle type approval section. Is this true of the Vauxhall imported vehicles?

Cheers,

Jon.

Yes the reason that Vauxhall can only import a maximum of 500 Monaro units per year is that they don't have to meet the European Whole Vehicle Type Approval (ETA) however they still meet some form of less stringent low volume type approval, hence the numbers limit on 500.

....or at least that's how I think it works

Having been pulled by the law regarding number plates - I have a little info.

The law are happy if the letters and numbers are to the correct size, font and spacing. You would get away having a smaller plate size, as long as the characters are correct.

Its all about camera's reading the plate.
