if i crack it i will let you all know. as it stands from the quick read i have had it comes across as english to me (my inner geek is showing)
The shift light bit confuses me slightly in so far as that resides on the ECU, not the cluster? Assuming that that command does update the ECU, then if you need any help on deciphering the values without having to rev your car to death, I can read them back for you with EFI Live, although there's probably somebody closer who can as well

just done some quick reading and some googeling and it appears as if there is a chap in Oz who is writing a program to do most of this.
I'm pretty sure we have a USB to UART cable lying around at work, we certainly have USB to RS232/TTL around with bare ends. With the correct connector on the end (OBDII), I could easily knock something together that sent the relevant bytes out, it's just the matter of figuring out the various options I suppose.
From that thread, they seem to know what the enable / disable is for the shift light, they know what 6 bytes relate to the rpm trigger for the shift light, but not exactly how it corresponds (that could be tested / figured out) and they know what values to set for the various logos.
Am I right in assuming that most people here just want the correct logo?
Do we have a spare cluster?
Nick, sorry if this is presumably all stuff you can do, I don't know whether you a general hardware / electronics type fixer, or a poor code monkey like me...

James its ok i have been around a while on the IT circuit (started very young in deed) and i can do everything from hardware / electronics to software and touching on coding. so between us we could have all bases covered.
Right i have some good news.. so goo infact it requires a post of its own.
i have been doing some web huting and with my abality to google almost anything and some clever hunting and a web time machine (yes you heard right) i have found the follwoing.
the cluster in all VY / VZ cars (ours) was not actually made by holden it was made by a 3rd party company called AAPL (Australian Arrow Pty. Ltd) in fact apparently they did all the HAVAC system as well.
after some more fact finding missions i discovered that they wrote a bit of software to program all the settings in these clusters. according to the company it does not exist tho
so after some more hunting i found some screen shots of this application that does not exist. but trying to track down its name was a bh. but after some more hunting i found its name
so i went hunting and every where i looked all references to this program had been removed but them i struck gold and found a Aussie forum that had a removed link but then i remembered the web page time machine and went back in time and got a copy of the new removed link
so in my procession i now have a copy of the "official" although none existent software to program all monaro clusters. i have found a warning say some features will not work on a VZ (05) dash but we shall have to be careful and see. apparently this app can read and program the cluster while it is in the car.
also i have read up that we can adjust the known bug of the service error messages coming up at the wrong mileage.
so all i need now is a cable and a spare cluster to have a look it..
im sure they will be requests for this software but i shall keep it close to my chest for now until i have managed to fire it up and see how dangerous it really is.

right well another update. im on a roll this evening.
i have the application loaded on to a laptop and running.
all i have to say is there is a lot of settings that can be changed.
next step is to get a cable and seeing if it can read form the car and take it from there.
from this moment on i will not be rushing anything as the last thing i want to do is feck things up and brick a cluster.
does anyone have a pre-made aldl cable i could borrow?

will the serial to obd cable from a v1 EfiLive cable work? It appears to have pins 1,2,4,5,6,14,16 connected. If it will then I'll be happy enough to risk my cluster at the weekend, hell its only one hex value you actually need to change if its only the logo we're changing and there's plenty of sites carry the correct lists of options. BTW that software that doesn't exist was doing the rounds ages ago but the only guy that seemed to have it wasn't for sharing anything other than loads of screenshots from it and yeah it looked pretty amazing what you could do.

Looking at pin outs of a adal cable last night I don't think the efi cable will work. Mainly as an adal cable has resistors in it.As for the software I spotted that people don't want to share it or some of the manual hex data you can enter. But I'm not one of them I will happily share once I have assesed it as the last thing I want is for people to brake there cars.
