Stage 2 upgrade, brakes and dyno results
Discussion
Collected my car from Mark on 11 August after upgrade to stage 2 (with mafless tune), Ripshifter and AP Racing brakes (and a suspension tweak too). No offence to VXR drivers but I prefer the understated look of the CV8 to that of the HSV.
Mark dyno'd the car before and after. The Aussie sites suggest that a stock 245kw engine should do 183rwkw, say 245rwbhp. Before it ran only 207 rwbhp on a hot day (32C). After it ran 298 rwbhp (24C) - max of 300 rwbhp possible on dyno used. Mark reckons the driveline remains tight and could be partly responsible for low results of the "before" reading.
The results of the upgrades are fantastic. The improvement in throttle response, torque across the range, acoustics, ride and gear change are immense. While I never had a problem with the stock brakes, including several long runs across the North Pennines, the APs don't fade and therefore instill more confidence.
Fuel consumption appears to be up with a fall of 4-5 miles per gallon, but its early days and this might be my increased enthusiasm for the throttle.
Closing thought - I put some Optimax in last week and, while the car doesn't need it, the difference was noticeable. Anybody else tried it on non-supercharged engines?

Excellent stuff! You guys finally have MAFless!!
I strongly recommend you use the good fuel on it all the time especially when you go out to blast some HSV/VXR's away!!!! Sadly your fuel consumption will go up!! Mine has too, coz the car is too much fun to drive!!!!
AP brakes as well! Have them on my car! really good!
Diff gears next maybe?? Might need a return to your tuner for that though for a little tweak of the computer!

no dum questions on this forum "caspy"..............
MAFless literally means removing the MAF (Mass Air Flow) meter from the air intake system.
By removing the MAF you can have a better and larger airflow into the engine but the computer
does not know how much air is entering the engine.
So the computer needs to be re flashed so it now works in "Speed density mode" which is when
info is taken from other sensors to work out how much fuel to introduce.
With the MAF missing the computer has no failsafe test for Air/Fuel mixture so a good tune is very important.
