Rip Shifters are the best.
Discussion
I have just picked up my car from having the Rip Shifter put in. This is the best modification I have done to this car. I don't know why HSV aren’t putting it in as standard. The gearbox is a joy to use, direct precise and has none of that annoying noise in 1st and 2nd.
Thanks UK HSV for taking the plunge first with your car.
I would recommend this to anyone who has a GTS, GTS-R or Monaro.

My ripshifter has arrived from GM motorsport and I'm having it fitted in a couple of weeks when the car goes up to Linden for the stage 2 upgrade.
Looking at the ripshifter, I notice that the lever is "S" shaped so that the gear knob is approximately 2" further forward than the standard lever (assuming that the standard lever is straight and not "S" shaped) If this is the case, then I'd say that the gear knob is going to be very very close to the radio buttons when in gears 1-3-5. Has anbody actually fitted a ripshifter to a Monaro yet?

The standard leaver is not straight. The path is a vertical leaver comes up from the gearbox connects to a horizontal bar that is about 3 inches long this connects to a vertical leaver which has a joint at the bottom and the gear knob a the top. This whole assembly has a significant amount of slop, which gives you an imprecise shift. Thus the gear knob is not moved as much as you postulated. The things you will find is that 1-3-5th are a bit higher than you are used to. Hope this helps.
I strongly agree with Island Boy and ukhsv - the mod is EXCELLENT.
The gear changes are so smooth and precise. Everything is very ACCURATE.
1st and 2nd / 5th and 6th requires a gentle pressure to the side. 3rd and 4th is up and down.
Shifting from 6th to 3rd for a blast is excellent and fast.
ONe warning - TAKE CARE REMOVING THE GEAR KNOB. I have a feeling the guy who fitted mine twisted rather than pulled. I've glued it back but it rattles at VERY HIGH REVS.
Another bonus with the ripshifter is the stock linkage vibration has gone. So during normal driving no more noise
