I have been having a battle with TESCO Insurance about the alarm on my car (GTS)....

They wanted me to fit another imobiliser to the car as my car has not been "Thatcham approved", but I said it does have a system inexcess of what is needed by Thatcham!!!!

So I think we have a cartel running here.............

But after much time and effort I have moved on.....

So after more phone calls I talk to a guy at "Adrian flux" and go through the same old thing but he takes all the details and talks to the main man! and guess what it is insured with no alarm changes.

Now I am told this is only done on a case by case basis so this is not a sure thing but if you try them for a quote you might need to use my name/policy details to cut through the crap and I have a letter from HSV with the spec of the alarm

So email me and I will send you the info.

This info only applies to HSV cars (inc.VXR) as they have the HSV ESS. Sorry Monaro dont have the same system.............

By the way Vauxhall help line tell you your Monaro and VXR are Thatcham approved it is not true I have spoken to Thatcham many times now!!!!!!

One last thing tell "Adrin Flux" (0845 1304795) you were sent via the Drivers Club as this might give us some clout in the future...........

I had mine with tTESCO's for a year with no problems then this year they asked for proof of a Thatcham alarm!!!!

"SJC" Does your car have an aftermarket alarm fitted? or is it the standard HSV unit only..........

If it is the standard item and you have got away with it - you are lucky!!!

I did not want to fit any aftermarket system to my car. as I belive the HSV ESS is as good as it needs to be!

When I was trying to insure my Corvette Z06, Adrian Flux insisted it have a Thatcham approved alarm. I told them if they thought I was going to hack round an expensive car that was garaged and only covered for 4000 miles a year, they could learn to whistle through their butts as the stock alarm is more than adequate.

In the end, i went to Hill House who noddingly approved the stock Chevrolet alarm and gave me a lower premium to boot. Shame they've now been taken over by NU Direct but we'll see what the next premium brings....

I tried an Internet based company who did not quote online but then phoned me. They wonted £1300, garaged and only to be driven 5000 miles. I did not take them up. When I asked the operator why the premium was so expensive he said " Its a big fast car ".

Insured mine through Admiral .... I have full NCB (protected, luckily ) £800 fully comp, no mileage restriction. They required the car to have an immobiliser and alarm (which it has, obviously) they never mentioned anything about it being Thatcham approved.

My insurance is thru admiral via elephant.co.uk - approx 900 quid (full protected ncb).

The claims ppl at admiral have been top class After a bit of a false start with their recommended garage (who would only try to source parts from one supplier) they sorted me out by going to my main dealer for the repairs, and sorted out the courtesy car while I wait for parts.

Cubbi

Watch out on your next years premium if you have claimed this year - even with fully protected ncb I got a £400 increase after my crash....

I asked whats the point of protecting ncb - they said it would have been much worse without...

Thanks jagsy.

I'm expecting a bit of a rise

Will shop around as usual and maybe try a few tactics like adding parents to policy - that sometimes brings it down - it's all a statistics game

Just got off the phone to Adrian Flux, things look good. Almost the same as Tesco. I got a discount for menchioning HSV Drivers club. I had to wait for my other Insurace to finish, seems the company cant cancel till the end of a months worth of cover. Sould see the package of info eirly next week. I was very impress when Adrian Flux said they would chase my old company for proof of my noclaims situation. Thanks again UKHSV!

Really looking forward to getting behind the wheel of my sons vxr when he puts me on his insurance, many thanks CUBITTUS. Mind you I will have to find room for my wooden leg, I could always use my walking stick to press the gas pedal. Oh and I will put my glass eye in the back window so I can see the chaos behind. Cheers from PAXOSROB

Thanks Dad.

Just goes to show - no matter where technology takes you - you're parents can always be there to embarrass you!

Just renewed with Tesco last week for the 4th year,£634 and if I sell the car (see add!) they will reimburse the whole pro-rata as opposed to a sliding % scale which normally leaves you out of pocket.Very fair.
