8.3 with the filter Mick

Your right Gary I thought it a bit strange when I was filling it up, I just hat to pick a web site that was incorrect lol after I had put in 7 litres I looked under the car see if it was on the floor
Oil capacity is dependant on model and hence sump configuration, not engine number. i.e. LS2 in monaro is 6.2 litres, not 8.2 as in R8.

Yes. 6.2 here.

What is the favoured brand of oil for these engines? I know it suggests mobil 1 on the filler cap, but often you find enthusiasts prefer different.
Not had my car long and an oil change is coming up
Thanks
Sean
In reality it doesn't matter what brand you actually use as long as the specifications of the oil are correct for your application. Not had my car long and an oil change is coming up

Go for mobile1 if you want or Vauxhalls own brand if you can get it cheap enough.
I have used Royal Purple 5w/30 oil and filter for years without issue?
Now I'm not saying it's the best oil out there, but it is very good if a tad expensive, maybe even overkill for a road car. As long as you change the oil regularly, you can't go wrong.
For me it's once a year or around 6000 miles as I like to think I'm keeping everything clean on the inside of the engine.
Ok thanks.
Royal purple is a bit OTT for me. I only do 6k a year, and use the car mainly at weekends with occasional trip to Tesco mid week.
It gets its legs stretched a bit during the weekend.
I think some good quality mid range oil will be good for my needs. Like you say it not like it’s doing hill climbs or track days.

Could you tell me the P/N and where to get a Royal purple oil filter for a Ls2 Monaro. Tia Go for mobile1 if you want or Vauxhalls own brand if you can get it cheap enough.

What’s you mileage? I had to switch to 10w/30 on my LS1 at around 80k or I’d get a bit of oil passing the rear main seal for a short period after an oil change. I use semi-synthetic.Now I'm not saying it's the best oil out there, but it is very good if a tad expensive, maybe even overkill for a road car. As for miles to change, I prefer at 3000. Holden originally recommended an oil change every 5000kilometers. I find the oil is dirty enough by then to warrant it.
