MAF conversion?
Discussion
The £100 MAF conversion I think you refer to is a upgraded MAF pipe, which is the corrugated pipe that runs between the MAF meter and the throttle body.
A larger smooth walled pipe gives a larger smoother volume of air into the TB.
Have a look at www.andy-saunders.co.uk/csperformance/#Start

MAF's.............YIKES!!!
They start civil wars down in OZ !!!
My car actually runs without a MAF now like the GTS over here or GTS-R over there!
The MAFs on the Vaxhall/Holden/HSV's are all the same.
I have seen the MAF's Boosted is talking about on some cars down here..... aftermarket of course. I think they are off one of the US trucks????

like "motomk" says forget messing with the MAF unit as the gains from a larger/ported version are not worth the costs.
The best way is to remove the MAF and have a custom PCM tune (about £350 mail order) +pipe
The other option is to fit a new MAF to T/B pipe as "Jagsy" said which will give a better throttle response , but as your car is a VX SS to get any real performance increase you will need to change the Cold Air Intake as yours is a poor design.
Upgrade to a Monaro one (very cheap) or a HSV one (very expensive). Do not buy the over the radiator version as it has been shown time and again that they don't work (if you want one ask one of the OZ guys and they will send you one free for the cost of the postage - they are that poor).
try this link as it shows some proper testing of Maf/Cai etc. www.chipmaster.com.au/Monaro%20part2.htm

I would say the best thing to start with is a K&N Filter at about £36 next a new Maf pipe £100 (mine and Jagsy's came from CS Performance) or try www.jhp.com.au
Then a Monaro CAI at about £20 ($50) and that lot will give you at least 20-25hp.
It also forms the basic setup to get real power from the car when you add exhaust+headers and a new PCM.
400hp is not that hard to find and at a cost of about £2500 (if you fit it)........
