Monaros in print

Hi Jags
Auto Express first:
They are still impressed by the power but say that
"the old Omega derived chassis still judders and twists over rough surfaces, and despite a faster steering rack, the Monaro is not the sharpest coupe around, and for those with a test track at their disposal(like the A1 e.g),wild tyre smoking oversteer is available on demand". They like the sound it makes too but that the improvements to performance and handling over the standard one are not huge so the extra £6945 makes the car seem expensive.
Autocar v M3:
Well what did you expect? Do magazines ever rate anything better than a BMW? no of course they don't.
There are things they actually do like about the Monaro
but the M3 " possesses Gods'own chassis", hang on while I vomit,....The chassis is so good yet "the mild small bump choppiness in the BMW is absent in the 'Vauxhall'". So much for that chassis. The BM has better brakes too."Even though it undercuts the M3 by over £5500 it's a little too expensive for what it offers". "A giant killer of the Lotus Carlton calibre it is not"."The bottom line is that the M3 remains the finer instrument etc" You'll note that it is cheaper by £1445 in Autocar! Ask them to get one.
All words in " are their words not mine.
It sure has stirred up some interest with the journos.
I think they all love it really.

Hi Rob
Good to hear from ya mate,
Can't make it,already pre booked an air show in Gloucestershire. Love a bit of afterburner! I'll be Swindon way by the time you leave Eastleigh.
Maybe another meet at the Churchillian?
What about Goodwood? I'll be there Fri & Sat. There's supposed to be a party coming over from Aus with Unique Cars.I believe they're staying in Southampton somewhere, don't know where.
Could meet at Goodwood?
Let me know mate.

Interesting, as I've had a few people wanting to change from M3's and 330 Ci's to the Monaro's, should have a few more next week when I get the VXR on the road, already have a list of people waiting for theyre test drive.
I've always raved about M3's, just because I have read what they drive like, how they 'feel', however, I got to drive one of the new ones for the first time last week, and really didn't rate it, didn't like the variable valve timing style engine, lack of torque and the interior in my opinion was cheap, give me the VXR Monaro any day.
