This has probably been asked a million times before but, I am due to replace my front brake discs and pads on my Monaro. Its a 2004 5.7 CV8. Can people please recommend the best manufacturer for the Monaro. EBC, Mintex or any other brands that work best to stop the heavy thing.
Currently running drilled and grooved discs (not sure what make they were on it when I bought it) with EBC red stuff pads.

Where is the best place to buy from?

I am asking as I am sure people have tried various combinations some that work and some that dont. I would appreciate any help.

Gonna need tyres soon as the cheap Japanese ones that are on it now (already on it when I bought it) are useless in the wet. I have heard the Monaro doesnt run well on some brands. Again any advice would be appreciated as I need them pretty quick.

If you actually want to stop, replace the whole lot with AP's. If thats too much, id recommend DBA discs and Performance friction pads. We can do EBC discs too and we do a lower cost pad as well though its not as good as the performance friction one.

Tyres id go bridgestones (oe) contis or dunlop sport max.

If you're happy with the current brakes' performance, then simply replace like for like (although you really should have yellowstuff pads instead). A full set of EBCs and matching pads should cost around £400. Or if you're feeling flush then there's always APs.
I assume when you say 'cheap Japanese tyres' you mean Toyos or perhaps Bridgestone? I must say I wasn't impressed with the Bridgestone RE 040s that came with my CV8, so I replaced them with Falken 452s and they are much better. Just make sure you get the correct load and speed rating, whichever tyres you get, 95 Y iirc.

A set of DBA's and Bosch pads will set you back about £150 all in for an 04 CV8. Nothing like £400. But only for an 04 CV8 car, not 05!

That's a good price , Roger. Is that for all four discs and matching pads. And how come 05s are dearer? frown

I have just come back from Spa where I was on track with my Cv8 with VXR calipers and yellow stuff pads. Everyone who came for a ride were quite impressed by the brakes, but, I went in an Audi R8. This car is a bit lighter and the brakes are a lot better probably akin to having AP's on a RO.

I think the brakes I have do a pretty good job even under strenuous conditions and the pads I think offer better feel than performance pads and have no problems with material transfer.

No, just fronts. Thats all he wanted. 05 cv8 has different brakes and they are a little more. We are currently doing a special offer (see banner ad ^^^^^ up there) for £99 for 2 genuine rear discs and bosch pads for 04 CV8.

A numpty pulled out on me the other day without looking, any less than APs and I reckon insurance details would've been swapped...

I have an Opel Evo 500 as a track car (basically the same car) and it's taken me five years of development to get anywhere near the performance of the AP's on my Holden. They really are that good.

Thanks to all of you for your help. Unfortunately I cannot afford APs so I think I will be in touch with the Monkfish in the next week or so to take up his offer of DBAs.

just check your car is still fitted with stock brakes as a lot of cv8 owners have fitted VXR version as an upgrade.

I hate to ask a daft question....but I will.... is there any noticeable difference from the standard set up when braking from a low speed around town, or is just an improvement from high speed and I heavy braking?
I'm thinking about pedal travel, the initial brake bite and the overall feel.
