Gearbox went after the oil seal gave up.

Trying to source one for yonks now, any ideas where to get one? where to rebuilt or any other suggestions re if other gearboxes fit?

Spent a whole fortune on this car already: engine blewnot long ago and now the gearbox!

Any help appreciated. As username, it's a 2000 UK HSV GTR Numero 007

Thanks

Presuming that you have spoken to Mark at LSV?

There is a company that specialises in gearbox rebuilds in Portsmouth, known for auto transmissions but I do not know their number but will try & source for you.

If it's manual?

LS1 t56 isn't the same as camaro or earlier boxes. The input shaft is longer so you have to get the proper ls1 item and they are more expensive. I've seen them for $3000 but that's quite an old price. I can get them new from the US, I also have a used one here which I won't be needing on my car so you can pm me if your interested.

Thanks, I like to help. I fiddle a lot on a techie level with the ls1 as that's my chosen engine after all the years with the Rover v8. I buy a lot of parts for myself and some parts for resale or custom built engines. Thing is, Holdens are different in many respects to the Camaro/vette. Take the sump as a good example. The holden has a really unusual pan. I digress, a stock t56 is useless for an ls1, I know because I bought one and learned the hard way! It's still in my workshop. I am ordering parts in a day or two so could easily accomodate a new t56 if thats of any help. I'd have it here in a week or so.

I've done some checking. The hsv box is different again. It doesn't seem that it's a stock ls1 item at all. Whatever you buy be sure it's the correct part

Thanks guys.

Engine was rebuilt by Mark at Linden but it seems that there are problems trying to get hold of a reasonably priced gearbox. Was quoted £4k so I am trying to get hold of a cheaper one if possible.

Cost me £10k last year in rebuilt and service alone.

Will post pics when I get my digicam out, the car's at garage now.

Any more ideas guys?

I can get a new one for £2250 assuming it's the same item. I need part numbers to be sure. I know it's a Holden box

HSV007, sorry to hear your news what was the cause of the engine rebuild? Hope it gets sorted soon, maybe I should renew my warranty again!

They should be the same...the only difference should be the differential ratio in the back.

There's the box. Look on the T56 page and the hsv box is the 12th one down, I think!

I'll see what my ls1 box is later for a comparison.

Mike.

From reading all the literature, I think the GTS and GTS-R gearboxes should be the same? They seem to use similar ratios.

But if someone can confirm, it'll be great!

By the way, I would like to invite all who helped to the grand opening of our bar/lounge in October (but in Manchester though).
