A decent Granturismo review by Harry

Not many reviews of these since it was released. Such a fantastic looking car but unfortunately, even without the overpriced paint job in this video, the price was always too high from the start.

I watched that this morning, I though decent car ruined by the interior and a price point that made little sense.

I would say it's about £75k- £100k overpriced, as it's a turbo V6 with 550hp. That is squarely in M4 territory, and I would say the interior quality doesn't justify it being more expensive than the BMW or Audi equivalent. Not sure who the target buyer for this thing is really.

Its a shame, as I really liked the older model.

The Trofeo starts at 160kish, so I think 100k overpriced is very harsh!
I’d have this over an M4 all day, every day and would say it’s worth a decent premium over that car, it’s a different class. Obviously it depends what you are looking for but for me it should be 120k starting and, if you are looking at a BMW/Audi equivalent, i guess you are in M5, RS7 territory.
Prefer it to either of those but sadly, 160kplus is a non starter, if it was the M5 price, 120k, it would be a no brainer.

Well the target market certainly isn't an M4 buyer smile

I was out today with someone in an M4, mighthave been the way he'd specc'd it but it was all shouty angry noise, pops and bangs, a real "LOOK AT ME" car. The GTS OTOH doesn't need to shout, it simply has Presence.

It is probably more an Aston DB11 competitor.

There were surprising similarities in the dashboard with an Abarth 595. Maybe it was the font? You get the same text warning on startup but I felt there were others as well.

Surprised me they’d not spent more on the interior. Aston seemed to been learning that lesson.

Perhaps o/t but we have the Grecale and it must be the most commented upon car that I've ever owned, 99% positive too.

I think Maserati would like it to be seen in a different class as the M4, and really it should have been, but I'm just not as convinced by it.

Maybe I'm a little stuck in the past, but it's a V6 making M4 power, is about M4 sized, weighs about the same, both are AWD, both are usable cars and neither is really that appealing inside.

Don't get me wrong, I really do not like the M4, but take the badge off them and the concept so not so different. If I had the Maserati, I'd be scratching my head as to how they justify a £100k price point, let alone a £160k starting price.

In my humble opinion, this car falls into no man's land. With a V8 it had an appeal. As a V6, there are too many other options that make more sense to me.

There are a few cars these days that match that description; various Mercedes AMGs, Bentley Continental, 911s and probably some others. I agree with you about the V6 being less appealing but the Nettuno engine has provenance from the MC20, as others have pointed out.

The Maserati is quite a bit bigger than the M4 and has much more sense of occasion. I was very impressed when I looked at one in the showroom and think it’s probably halfway between an M4 and a Continental, which it is on a pricing basis. While the Jaguar XK and XJ were around, Maserati was the Italian equivalent in many ways but now sits on its own. I couldn’t live with an M4 as a daily but I could happily have the Maserati.

I thought it was a chunk bigger than an M4? I just had a look and it is a couple of inches wider and 6 inches longer, which surprised me as I thought the M4 was quite a small car and the difference was more, then it turns out yesterday I was in an M2!

And there is the rub. For me at least, the new shouty BMs are all much of a muchness, despite the wife still having a Z4M, and the likely replacement will be an M140i or a Golf R now we've got another dog.

There are loads of cars you can find similarities with on paper to the GTS, and I agree the V6 dilutes it somewhat, and the price point seems a little ambitious. But specs are for journalists and dreamers. For the people who will put their hands in their pockets for these things, the numbers are secondary.

They can hustle if you want them to, but people don't buy these to get from A to B in an attention grabbing blaze of pops and bangs as seems to be the way of many of the European perfomance cars and SUVs these days (or at least the ones you notice). You arrive discretely, serene and calm, the concierge smiles as you pull in.

I ran a Gransport for 7 years. An RS5 or M5 would have been a far more sensible, practical, reliable, and cheaper choice. Actually pretty much anything would. But they would not have been half as enjoyable to own.

As Harry Stated, the sweet spot is possible the Modena not the Trofeo. That starts at 133K with some argy bargy with a dealer I think you could probably get that to be closer to 120/125K. it has 490 not 550 but that`s not a huge difference.

I'm exactly sure why, but I was surprised at these being 4WD for some reason. I was still expecting them to still be RWD. I did enjoy the video though.

I like it but ive carried on liking saloons through this suv carp (yes yes, we have an FFRR)

I think previous owners (myself included) will have more issues as they remember the sound being a huge part of the ownership and maybe handling wasnt so important to them, even the 4200 gransport was a better steer than the granturismo! but then it was a coupe..

The new V6 doesnt sound awful but its a long way from the old V8 sound, to far for previous some owners maybe..

MC20 sound (and luggage) is what stopped me but as a 3yr old 80-100k car? maybe..

This? £90-100k @ 1-2yrs old, maybe..

As at the end of the video, there are 'new' Modena's on the market for considerably less and - although below the list price - look more 'appropriately priced'. And, I'm sure there's a bit more to be haggled off! Even Trofeo's with sub-1000 miles from £130k in fact, so the price point seems somewhat irrelevant to an actual buyer vs what Maserati would perhaps desire.

As a former 'original' GranTurismo owner, I was almost relieved that the review was so positive, but the price point is going to put people off (unless they look at models on the forecourt). I'll put aside the M4 price-comparison as it is fiently ridiculous, rather I see it as a DB11 / 12 competitor. But the latter do seem more luxurious, although not without their problems either by all accounts.

Would I have (another) one? Maybe, but at the lower end of the current price points available - and seeing those Trofeo's at the £130-160k range which are basically new, then that's suddenly not so objectionable. But for factor orders Maserati seem to be sticking to it's roots and being all 'Italian' I guess, albeit with I'm sure some good haggling deals available - although I'm not sure you'd get a dealer to throw in a £30k paint job.

I guess give it a couple of years and the depreciation will provide options. That and having had a decidedly middling Maserati-ownership experience lately means a bit of time needs to pass yet.

I test drove one (LHD) earlier this year and it was very good. Great engine for the job.
Unfortunately it’s way over priced, and given the Maserati dealer wouldn’t even bid me on my MC20, I won’t be buying any more…

I am seriously considering swapping my 2021 992 C4S for one. I bought it 18mths ago used and its warranty is out next June and needs a bigger service in April.

There appear to be PLENTY of deals around on these cars, I’ve been tracking a few on Autotrader and the haven’t moved on in several months. I remember reading an article where Maserati’s CEO talked about his discounting strategy and that all their dealers would be kept in check to off no discounts. Not sure that will still be the case now.

I love my 911 have plenty of fun on the b roads round near me, but have been doing a fair amount of motorway miles for the past year and it’s my daily driver.

Whilst I’ve got Adaptive Cruise Control on the 911 which I’d never be without on any future car and I get 36-38mpg on my motorway runs, I feel like a more comfortable gran tourer may be my next move.

It feels like I’ve had my dose of fun and it’s time for a grown up car. The usable rear seats would also be a big bonus as my daughter is 13 and the 911 can be a 3 seater for an emergency only.

It’s just like others have mentioned, even with the deals it’s still circa £130k for a Trofeo (and you have to hunt to find the ones with the driver package for Adaptive cruise control) it still feels like it’s priced too high.

I looked at one in a dealer several months ago and the interior felt fine from my point of view, just not £160k’s worth of a car.

That being said I think it might just be inflation where the new 992 GTS is £145k+ for a decent spec.

Will probably wait until the new year and delve deep into it with a couple of dealers. I am equidistant from Bradford and Stockport, and they both appear to have some stock cars.
