Maserati (Cambiocorsa) Coupe 4.2 2003 seat not working

Hi there, I have read all of the threads regarding the seat setting etc and i also purchased and fitted the Porsche motor without any luck. my seat can go up and down and tilt yet it cannot go forward or backwards. prior to the seat problem
I did smell burning if I operated the seat quite a bit as you would do when resetting it.
The seat stopped going forward and back ward a year or so later. I did manage to take the seat out of the car despite the fact that it was fully forward however I ideally want it to go back as far as it can go as I seldom use the rear seats.
Any ideas as to how best to fix this and whilst i have the seat out of the car on the garage side is there a way to manually adjust it to set it further back on the frame.
