Hello All,
I purchased a 2 year old QP a few months ago and the service is due. I have had a quote from the dealership and they are asking for nearly 1k and all it includes is a oil and filter change. Seems a bit steep considering what is involved but I understand I am looking to pay the brand premium.

Question is, how important is the main dealer servicing on these when it comes to resale? I am planning on keeping the car for 2 years. Would a service in say Kwik Fit impact the value or even missing the service this year?

Thanks in advance!

A friend of mine had a 4200, and a local garage wouldn't touch it. So he took it to a specialist in Masers and Ferraris etc.

presumably your car is still under the Maserati Factory Warranty? If so, check the verbiage carefully, as I imagine going to KwikFit will invalidate it as well as make your attempt to sell it on in a few years that much harder. The warranty may allow for recognised marque specialists in place of main dealer servicing but I'd check this first if I were you.

Ok thanks. I think I will just cough up the crazy money and get it serviced properly

Whereabouts in the country are you and is the QP petrol or diesel ?

I had my QPs (V6) serviced at my local main dealers a few months back and it was well under £1k so may be worth ringing around and seeing what (if any) deals can be done. I know for instance that JCT600 Brooklands are offering reduced rates on labour for winter services at the moment so that could help keep the costs "sensible" and still get that main dealer stamp in the service record.

Most people used franchised dealer during warranty period and then a specialist after that. I would never take any car to a quick fit type place for a service. Especially a car like that. Why buy a 100k car and expect to service it for pennies

I have my 4200 serviced at Lancaster's in Colchester and at various independents around the country. I know the 4200 isn't quite the same as the QP but the oily bits on the DuoSelect are the same so I would expect it to cost about the same.

From memory, the basic service is usually around £600 to £700. Lancaster's seem to match the price of the indies, well at least they used to.

As the Cardiff Maserati dealer closed down I had to shop around with my 2 year old QP for the second year service. I was quoted £1145 in Swindon and £ 895 at Exeter. I considered it necessary by a dealer to preserve the warranty.
I opted for Exeter and they were great. They even gave me a Levante as a free loan car.
As an aside there is no way I would swap the QP for a Levante. The QP is much smoother in performance and ride and that's before we get to looks!

You do not need to have a car serviced at a franchised dealer to maintain your new car warranty. This is covered by EU Block Exemption law and I'm sure it's well discussed on other PH subforums. As long as equivalent quality parts are used and manufacturers service schedule followed.

But as you intend to keep the car only another two years, a main dealer service will look better to potential buyers. I certainly wouldn't take a Maser to Kwikfit - it would be a turn off to many potential buyers. A good specialist service would also be fine.

Thank you guys for all the feedback. I'll be taking it to the Maserati dealership next week. I took the car out of the garage the other day at night when the temperature was minus. The rear tailight cracked on the inside probably from the change in temperature and stopped working.

I hope its covered under warranty. I just cant believe it happened. Is this common?

Wise decision. Although in theory you can take it anywhere can you imagine the scenario when something major went wrong and it had not been serviced by a franchise dealer. I am sure you would have to go through all sorts of hoops to prove that the indie had done the job properly

Not worth the hassle for a couple of hundred pounds
