Anyone taken theirs on track?

I took my old 4200 round a few and it wasnt to bad apart from brakes.

ive now had a 4.7 for the last few months and my road driving is getting a little too quick so going to take to the track for some thrills again... this has lead to me thinking of an R8 V10 as its more suited but happy to take the GTS if its any good, brakes are far bigger than my old 42000 with brembo 6 pots which dont seem to fade on road.

Bit of a stop gap anyway as i will be racing in a few years, i know its best i get it on track and find out for myself (and i will do thisj but interested if anyone on here has had a go?

Its very rewarding on road in its firmer set up so maybe im selling it short in my swapping ideas?

Both those cars are too heavy for regular track use. Don't let that put you off and I'd absolutely agree with occasional track visits to allow you to explore their limits, but if you are serious about going racing get yourself something light and cheap like a stripped out MX5 - a few grand will do it, consumables are pennies, and you will learn a lot more about car handling on the limit than with the others. Momentum cars teach you how to be smooth with your inputs, and by nature of being slower, spend more time going around the corner allowing you to dissect what is going on rather than just gripping the wheel and hoping you come out fine on the other side.

Thanks but it It was just to get an idea if it’ll be fun for the odd track day smile see if anyone had taken theirs on track to get an idea what it behaved like, i know 1800kg isnt the ideal track weapon hehe

ive done caterhams etc on track days, bikes, stripped out cars etc. and i am in noway interested in driving one to the track, if the gts is an absolute pig then i’ll get an r8 in the meantime.

If track use, even light, is a key part of the decision making, get an R8.

The R8 and GT are obviously very different types of car. The GT is a great mile muncher. Bigger a-roads and crossing distance. It can be hustled but it never feels comfortable doing so and you'll chew through tyres and brakes.

I'm not entirely convinced about an R8 as a track car though either.

I understand not wanting to drive to tracks in something like a 7, but if you have space for a trailer, get a 7, a trailer and a barge tow car (Disco, XC90, etc). You'll have infinitely more fun on track and the barge can be used for multiple uses smile
