hi all
thinking of going to see this car
come from a long line of 911 ownership
but the look of these things keeps drawing me in
I will probably do less than 5k milage in London & because of that the auto is good for me
never driven a maserati but this looks an awful lot of car for the money
likely ownership is normally 1 year so wont be huge on the depreciation curve
thanks for any thoughts as i have never driven or sat in one let alone one

Dependent on which 911 you have, it'll either feel slow, or really slow. Also ponderous - it's a GT, not a sports car. Much more of a sense of occasion when driving it, and other road users tend to be less knob-like in their attitude to you on the road.
Must have been serviced on time by official dealerships or one of the recognized indies or don't bother (2yrs 12.5k). Bits are expensive, especially front brakes, so check they've got plenty of wear left
It's very big - as in Range-Rover big, and wide, so width restrictors are an issue if you're in Central London. That engine shouldn't have the variators issue, I don't believe. If you do a lot of early starts, your neighbours will hate you.
All that said I went from a 997 Turbo to my current GT Sport, and I wouldn't go back. Absolutely love it, and other than a parking sensor replaced under warranty, nothing has gone wrong in 2.5 years of ownership, although mine was only 2yrs old when I bought it, with 3k on the clock.

I've had a granturismo 4.7s for the past 2 years & only use it occasionally. Feels really special every time I drive it.
Just Bought a 997 to replace my daily driver E46 Bmw. Best of both worlds but I would keep the maserati if i had to decide between them.
Porsche Doesnt feel quite as special but still an all time great

I went from a 997 C4S to a GT 4.2
Very very different cars indeed, I also have a Smart Brabus and that is probably closer to the 997, than the GT
The GT has adequate power but that's not its trick, it's all about the sound, the looks, and the sense of occasion that the Porsche was missing a bit
If you love chucking a car around B roads and dual carriageway roundabouts etc then the GT is not for you
Servicing costs seems a lot higher so far too, mine is a 2007 car, looks like about £3.5k in the last 12 months on not a lot all at indis (disks & pads all round, handbrake shoes, ARB lubing, service, brake fluid change, and a split coolant crossover pipe that required half the engine out to replace (£20 part typical). ALso spent £3.5k upgrading the radio and installing a reverse camera (which didn't stop me hitting a wall this week but that's another story!)
Great car and I wouldn't go back to a 997.1 now. Am considering adding a Boxster though for fun / winter use

I have run a number of 911s and I currently own a 4.7 MC Shift. It does feel like a large car but when it's up on its toes along country lanes it is very agile and feels much lighter than it's weight. It helps that the engine sits behind the front axle which results in fantastic turn in. It's much sharper at the front end than my 911s.

The engine sounds fantastic throughout the range and it attracts lots of positive attention.
