I've been looking at getting something a bit more 'special' and ideally something that doesn't depreciate like a stone!

The GT has always caught my eye as one of the best looking cars in existence, however I'm not afraid to admit I'm quite scared of getting one and the reliability perception as well as the limited number of garages and costs involved.

As owners, I would really appreciate your experiences of the GT. Im looking at spending around 40k so would be 2010 with around 35k miles.

I live in surrey and don't know of any garages local to me (near Epsom) and what kind of ££ the service costs are.

Not worried about fuel bills as I've had several V8 cars over the years and my milage is minimal. What I'm more afraid of is it breaking down and nobody being able to fix it, and getting my ass raped!.

I've got a Merc and a Maserati (quite different models to you) and wish my Merc was as reliable as my Mas smile

Pop over to SportsMaserati.co.uk , there will be all you could ever wish to know on that site.

Happy shopping.

I have move to one after a 996TT (after a CLK55) - from my research they seem pretty solid. Make sure you get one with a later engine number (variators fault on earlier ones, mind you should be fixed by now).

Servicing ok (£1,200 every two years and £2,400 on the 4th).

Brakes cost a bomb so make sure plenty of life.

Epic cars though, real presence....and the noise....it will haunt you!

Bought mine from HR Owen and they fixed a few expensive faults post acquisition so would recommend the .

Try both an MC and an auto, quite different cars (apparently, I have only driven an MC).

What a great choice to be able to make smile Maserati would get my vote on looks and noise alone.

Went from a 2005 BMW E60 M5 to a 2010 Maserati 4.7 Granturismo S MC Shift in Sept 2014. Bought from a main dealer with a one year official Maserati warranty. A few niggles fixed under warranty but car has been thoroughly reliable (unlike it's predecessor which would have bankrupt me save for the BMW warranty).

After the warranty ran out in Sep 2015, I've not bothered with a third party warranty but have a slush fund if anything goes wrong. So far, nothing has borked.

Consumables such as brakes and clutch expensive, though both will last 50k miles or more if treated properly.

Expect about 20mpg in mixed driving.

All in all a fantastic car and zero regrets. The only regret is an impending house purchase means I may have to let it go soon! frown

Check out www.nuvolalondon.com and www.richardgracecars.co.uk who cherry pick the best used examples!

Evening pal,

I've gone from a C63 (2008 estate) to a Maserati GT Sport MC Auto, both epics cars but the Maserati is in a different league when it comes to desirability, drama and an overall sense of occasion.

Performance wise I miss the extra torque from the AMG lump but the noise from the Maserati V8 more than compensates with noise and theatre that is befitting of a car that looks as good as the GT.

I'm over in Berkshire (near Wokingham), if you wanted a poke around one you're welcome to take a good look around mine.

Cheers.

I had an early GT one of the first and the car was great with the exception of the small engine (4200) and the tyres only lasted 4-8000 miles on the front and much less at the back. Kept in 3 years and sold it with 30,000 miles and no real problems. Had an XJ for 2 years and went back to Maserati a GTS MC which I still have. The car is great and as mentioned it is very reliable with the tyre wear now addressed through a different set up making the handling and feel of the car very different. I have used it for work each day a journey of 10 mile and have Driven to Italy in a day, it copes with both aspects well although I must admit tunnels and motorways are simply far better than jammed London roads.
Don't be concerned on the service costs they are no more or less than most cars of this value and if it does breakdown it will still look good at the side of the road. I am currently at 22,000 miles on the original front tyres and changed the rears at 18,000 which I think is fantastic, other than that I have had no other costs other than the £1200 service. Go on treat yourself you only live once.

I've had my car for around 18 months. I bought mine to keep. Been utterly reliable with no issues. I'll have her serviced every year. I hear the applause for the auto but the MC Shift gets my vote every time. It gives the car character and suits its temperament. It's not perfect but that is part of its appeal. Buy a car that has been regularly used. They don't like being stored.

I don't know how far you have got with this but it has to be a Gran Tourismo......

If it helps, mine have (I have had a 4.2 and now have a 4.7) been reliable and an absolute joy. I also live in Surrye and have used Maranello in Egham as well as Autofficina in Chessington/Ewell.

Autofficina have been excellent. Matanello less so :-(

Cost are high but if you buy the parts yourself and use a good indie like Autofficina then you can minimise them.

But it is a cost WELL worth paying for the looks, the NOISE, the drama, just everything. :-)
