Hi mate, car is going great. There's a guy a couple of doors up from me who works for the MG Owners club and knows the carb well, he also builds and drag races yank iron so he wanted a look. Reckons I need a bigger air cleaner, a couple of breathers need routing but otherwise thinks it was a good decision. I still have probs starting when warm and it's a bit thirsty (well you can't resist it can you? )I do worry about spot roadside emmision checks though.
Will bring the car up for final fettling when I can afford to. Future plans might be for a pre cat manifold but that's it

Give you £3000 for it and allow you to put a sticker on the back of my car

That has to be one hell of an engine what sort of power does it produce?

It's a 4.7 all steel bottom end with carillo rods omega pistons, wildcat heads done to my spec, cam done to my spec, modified 50mm dellortoes, msd ignition, crane pro roller rockers, titan oil pump, ally flywheel and twin plate ap clutch, grp a sump, electric water pump, billet race distributor, peak power was 438bhp at 7600 rpm and it sounded the dogs b******* at that!!

Stick it on e-bay with a sensible reserve and see what it goes for. I'll bid, I'm looking for a new engine for the kit car.

Sorry I can't write a sensible reply, my keyboard seems to be covered in drool! Unfortunately I can't afford it. Any idea what it would have cost to make an equivalent engine from scratch? I'm guessing a lot more than you're asking for this one!

There are people who can put an engine together, and then there are people who can build an engine....

I'll race ya for it....mines a stock LC 4.6 short motor, modified heads, cam, and a couple of extras.
Prob has 500bhp at 5500rpm ....
I love turbos

Most surprising thing, is that its actually held together now for over a year !!

Not sure how long it would last on a track/race enviroment though.

Thanks for the compliments guys, apache i would safely say 6750 i have never seen a tvr rod snap although the cranks twitch at 7k and above!! as for the cost of my motor i have bills in excess of 15k and a wife that ran off when she saw them!! to duplicate it around 12/13 cheap as chips then!! and as for the challenge steve!!!! nice figures by the way mate, how do you fancy a run down the strip?? although my engine will be strapped to a go kart chassis for less weight!!!! whats your engine in?? i did a turbo engine for a mate with after market heads in bmw i dont know the actual figures be nice too though

Its in a 1980 Ford Granada. Best Ive managed so far is 12.5 @ 120mph
Crap 2.3s 60ft times though. No grip really for the first 2-300 feet.

I'll be working on that very soon though, when I fit a live axle to the car. Hopefully some traction will see me into the 11's. Might get some sticky tyres too.

I once built a 5.1 turbo using a stock block, twr forged off the shelf turbo pistons and stock rods (I also had/have carrillo's but with my stroker crank they were touching the casing sides). Monster torque and very usable power but I never took it above 6k. I kept the compression at 9:1 c/r. There's a huge amount of work that goes into something non-standard, loads of balancing, blueprinting and clearance issues have to be addresses. I tried to keep the parts fairly simple so they could be replaced at short notice if need be. Rovers are pretty good candidates for forced induction IMHO. I also used a gpa Big wing sump, pukka!

The terminal speed speaks for itself, certainly shows you have the grunt there, a mate with an sdi rover with 330 bhp was running 13.5 and he suffering from loss of traction, so i lowered his propshaft fro him on the cross member and he instantly hit a 12.7 with virtualy no wheel spin at all, be nice to see your motor down the strip when your next there? i will challenge you to my bike!!

Thanks Rob. Did a similar axle mod to you as well, not with the prop but certainly with the same aims. Looking for anti-squat. Instead, I fitted an "A" frame under the diff which mounted behind the seats where the lower links used to live. The lower links then became upper trailing links. Car cornered very flat after that as the roll centre was lowered at the rear. When I next put it together I shall still use the "A" frame and this time mount it to a Ford 8.8" and fit it with a pinion snubber. That should give it some traction I still have the gp A sump and new carrillo's left over if anybody wants them. The sump also has the spring loaded pickup and turbo drain pipe inlets.

Many speak of 440 bhp Rover engines, this one is for real, i've seen the graphs, if i had a requirement for a race engine Rob would be the guy to build it. its nice to see a sub 5.0L configuration engine of this spec for a change, makes it very "lively".

Anyone got a video or sound file of these engines in action?
