Garage charges

The engine in my willy may need a rebuild, oil on the sparkplugs! I have found an independant Renault garage who charge £38 an hour labour. Does that sound reasonable? Anyone know how much franchised Renault dealers are charging an hour?

Not sure about Renault, but from what Ive heard, most main dealers are charging around £50-60 per hour, sometimes +vat on top of that too.
Considering what they pay the mechanics, its a disgrace. Its also a disgrace given the level of service and competence you sometimes receive.

I think £38/hour is very reasonable these days, think yourself lucky you dont run a BMW or Audi as some of thier dealers are nudging £100/hour!!!

Most mechanics are getting only from 6 to 8 quid an hour. Thats pretty shite pay for job that requires years of training, aptitude and dedication...take it from me.
Just like the bastards to screw the workers out of a decent wage.
Its why i gave up on garage work, and the franchised dealers are the pits, they really are.
