Diesel warm up time

The Saab diesel (72k miles 3yrs old) I have recently purchased, takes about 10 miles (of mainly motorway) driving to get up to temp. I don't remember the pug diesel I had taking this long.
Is this normal, if not what might be the problem, or should I just get the cooling system checked?

My golf tdi takes approx 1 1/2 miles to get warm to normal temp, which is nice on these cold mornings.

Thermostat, about £5-10 + 30 mins fitting.

Saab will probably charge you £50 + £75 an hour mind you.

Ps is it any good?, I've been tempted by one of these, but it's the same lump they put in Frontera's is'nt it?

I believe it is the vauxhall engine, although saab have made some mods to it.
It is (well mine is) rather rattly until warm (longer than it should be at the moment ) and it is probably a little underpowered (mine is 115bhp) but that can be improved. The mid-range is O.K, and I am getting around 45mpg.
I bought it as I didn't want a BMW/Merc and also needed the hatch.

The new saloon is much better all round apparently.

I think you'll find thats normal for a decent modern diesel engine - bear in mind it'll have burnt about 10cc of fuel in that time as opposed 5 times that for a petrol engine.

Fuel burnt = heat

If it uses a nats pee worth of fuel it will take longer to warm up than a petrol car - simple enough?

My Alfa 2.4 JTD takes an age to warm up too, especially compared to my previous Twin Sparks. I suppose the all iron constrution won't help either will it?
