volvo 850turbo

i have a volvo estate 1985 turbo, when i floor it , it kicks down but stays on a flat spot it wont go like it should do, if i lift of the pedal it the goes up a gear but wont go faster than 140km it normally will reach 240 no prob. any ideas what my problem is

all the usual .. injectors, air filter, check the pipework... might be more serious ( electronic ), have you called TME .. they are the UK's best IMHO Volvo tuner

Edited to add: take the car to a Volvo dealer and get them to check out the on-board computer - this sounds like the ECU may be forcing a speed limit because of a fault somewhere. It only takes a couple of minutes to check out the data.
