Just wondering:
What is the most power (and torque) that has been ever got out of the rover v8 is normally asperated form? and in forced induction form?
Cheers

Forced induction on the road has been 500 hp plus (nick manns morris minor). There was also a tr7 v8 with a reputed 750 lb/ft. The Le Mans Tr7 v8 was reputed to be over 500 hp and achieved over 200 mph on the mulsanne straight IIRC. With boost it's the torque figures that are so impressive and it can be achieved with a decent base compression ratio and stock engine parts. You can keep the rpm/s stock as well. For high boost you will need a change of pistons though.

I think Steve Heath reported 400 bhp from his JE 5.2, and he's threatening to increase this to 450 bhp next year. I guess he can't be far off the practical limit for a normally aspirated Rover V8. No doubt you could double or trebble this if you went forced induction and/or nitrous.

By the time you get the rover up to a respectable hp figure for it's capacity with n/a it will have cost bucket loads. They just weren't designed to rev but they will produce torque hence responding well to forced induction. Nowadays I view the stock short engine as a disposable item onto which you can fit bolt on turbo's, aftermarket mnanagement etc. If it broke, at least the investment hasn't gone down the pan.

Prism Motorsport and V8Developments built a 5.0 litre that is running in a BMW 320. It is twin turbo and makes an 'estimated' 600 BHP. The car is running in a sports verses saloon class this year but Clive Anderson is trying to get it running in the V8 Challenge next year I think. In a straight line it is awesome!
