hi,
what would be a safe limit to take a 350i v8 too in bhp

or would it be cheaper to get a bigger lump from a damaged/right off range rover and would i need the ecu from the doner range-y.

my 350i has not long had a top end rebuild which i did with the help off a very good machanic and i very much injoyed doing it and it runs well, but i wont to do it again with a 350 or 4.0L spare engine.

what i am trying to say is i want to build a engine which is free reving with good bhp and torque im not to botherd with top end speeds,

machine work i would have to pay for but all the taking and putting back together i would do,

can any one put a rough price on somthing like this im looking for 270 to 280 Bhp and torque getting up some where there too.

thanks Tony

Stage 3 heads, H234 cam, pocket pistons & inlet porting, would give you around 250 bhp & 220 lb ft, but lumpy at idle, would pull hard to over 6000 rpm, parts about £1700 might go bang tommorow or might last "forever" depends how you drive it. to achieve 280 bhp could cost 3 times this as you would need complete engine upgrade to cope with the revs.

a good 350i will produce over 210 lb ft, a 4.0L unit should be around 210 bhp & 225 lb ft.
you can fit cam on a 350 to produce high torque if you wish but it will spoil the top end punch you were after.
or go for a compromise 218 cam or similar will give around 220 bhp and 230 ish lb ft.

I was assuming porting as well, although you might get close with just cam ?
