Pinto won't stay running

My brother has just finished his car, and it was due to go for its MOT on friday 15th but a problem with the engine has meant that this didn't happen.
It's a 205 block 2.0 Pinto, and we've had it running before on twin 40's, but they've been shevled as there are problems with them. The car is currently running a twin choke downdraft (sorry, don't know which one, but it's a standard Sierra fitment) on loan, and to date has been running very well.
On Thursday when he ran the engine up to temp, it got there, and then just cut out for no apparent reason.
They then had a problem with starting, but that was a dead battery, so once a new battery was sourced the engine started on the button, yet still cuts out after a few mins.
They have fuel, spark, etc, and they've checked everything else but they can't find the source of this problem.
When it dies it just dies, no spluttering, hunting, just stops.

It's pretty annoying that after a 3 year build, and having had the engine running much longer before this happens.

Sounds like the weber dgav carb to me.
Check if the electrical connection to the idle shutoff solenoid is ok.
It may need the floatbowls cleaning out, sounds like crud deposits floating around.
Make sure the co% is correct too. If the mixture screw is too far in itll never run right, back it off a couple of turns after youve got it running.

Oh BTW, if you need the specs for the carb, just get the numbers off of it. Theyll be on a little flat area on the carb base, an will look like 32/36 DGAV or something very similar.
Ill look up the float heights etc for ya.
