Thought i would put this thread here instead of the Wedge forum..!
Q. I have an opportunity to purchase a '96 4.6L Range Rover V8.
I own a 350i TVR, is it a straight swap? Is it then the same as having a 4.6L TVR (other than cams)

If it's cheap, buy it.

You'll need the full fuel injection system (the EFI wiring loom is a separate entity on the earlier models, don't know about the later ones) to make best use of it. You'll also need all the ancillaries off the front end, 'cos it'll be a serpentine and nothing from your old motor will fit!

IMHO, definitely worth putting up with the grief of the conversion... if you can also cope with the increased fuel consumption and wear & tear on the drivetrain. But it would be a good hooligan tool, even on the standard Rangey cam.

Ive heard storys about the 4.6 range rover having piston problems. Why dont you look for a 3.9 block and work on that, it is what engine i use in my vehicle, and i take some catching and ive never had any problems with it, also there are plenty of them about and for a reasonable price too, and still get around 20mpg steady away..

Not the same as a TVR engine as TVR have fettled heads and other bits and pieces.
Yes in theory, simple swap... a lot of fettling in practice as things are different sizes, in the wrong place etc etc etc etc. Go to www.t-v-r-services.co.uk and read the 520 story.

The 4.6 is a good engine 260 lb ft "out of the box", although would struggle to rev beyond 5000 rpm, there was a problem with porous blocks but a small percentage.
If you have the Gems injection that would be a serious upgrade on a 350 but a lot easier to just re-use your old manifold, injection etc.
ancillaries could create difficulty, but possible.
