Chimera cut out

Hello all
A friend of mine is having problems with his 94 4.0Ltr chimera
The symptoms are:
from cold starts and runs fine, gets up to temperature (90°C) fans cut in and the engine stops and then fails to restart until cooled down. The engine turns over OK but doesn't catch, the coil, ignition amplifier and plug-leads have all been replaced to no avail. We tried fitting a new coolant temp sensor, again no change. Next attempt will be to try unplugging the lambda sensors and resetting the TPS any other ideas would be very welcome.

Ignition amplifier overheating perchance??? Just a thought, as im not sure these have them.

Does the engine cut at the exact point the fans come on? If so, maybe there's an electrical problem, common earth, brown-out via the immobiliser, that sort of thing. Might be possible to confirm this by disconnecting the otter switch and turning the fans on/off manually. If it's a more general 'cuts out when hot' type problem, how does it tend to die, and do you still have spark and/or fuel?

He's now tried disconnecting the lamda sensors and still no good and its now cutting out before it gets warm. And the ignition amp has been exchanged with no result.

Last time this happened to me, it was the ignition module. Time before that it was the fuel pump relay. In each case it would fail about 20 mins into the journey and be OK again after a cool down period. Can't your friend work out whether he has a fuel or ignition problem? Would help considerably in narrowing it down!

Edited to add: also had the snubber diode fail on the wire from the dizzy to the ECU - apparently it will run OK without this so if in doubt short it out.
