When i used to rally (over 10 years ago) the top cars ran Castrol R and produced that wonderful smell when they blasted past. Some of the cars lower down the field couldn't afford to run "R" so they used to bung a teaspoon of the stuff in the petrol and it used to make the car smell the same (bigger pose factor I suppose).

I know it sound silly but, I miss the smell and if I did the same to my TVR T350c would it bu66er anything up?

I know what you mean, the smell is everything...

I don't think you shoul dstick it in either, it may well effect the cat but it also thins the oil hugely as far as I am aware, hence it got burnt and produced the smell.

Not good at all, shame though!

He was talking about putting it in the petrol I think, not the sump

Thanks everybody (well ALMOST everybody- the rag idea didn't work.... joking!) Anybody else got any ideas how to get "that smell" ?

(Why can't they make perfume for women a la Castrol R?
R Pour Femme, maybe?)

I know it's veg oil but I still can't get the girlfriend to wear Mazola! Anyway she doesn't get hot enough to make it burn and she objected to being thrown on the fire.

A teaspoon of Castrol R in the petrol lawnmower makes cutting the grass a lot more enjoyable.

Only buggers up the cats if you run one over with it!

I think it would be inadvisable. I used to race Karts and ran them on Castrol R40 - it is an aphrodisiac to a Petrol Head. Knowing the right concentration to use in the fuel without messing up the octane rating yet gwetting a good smell would be hard, and messing up the cats if you have them is a possibility.

Why not just use it in the engine sump instead of the usual oil you have?

I thought you had to strip the engine down (or something like that)after using it for a while?

BTW tried rubbing R on my moustache.... had a ciggy and set fire to my nose. Couldn't smell the oil for the burning flesh and singed hair!

Castrol R does tend to gum up carbs/fuel injectors after prolonged use of it in the fuel. To run it as an engine oil the entire engine has to be stripped and cleaned as it does not mix well with mineral oils.

Also needs at least the filter replacing if not the oil every 500miles

Thanks again everybody.

Looks like I might just use it for trackdays....

....Then people will think I'm a racing driver...

.... as long as I don't actually go on the track!!
