Bosch develop quieter, more powerful alternator that takes up less space and chews up less engine power.

Hmm Considering the rate at which my 500 eats alternators, an increase in operating temp can be no bad thing..

Isn't there even some combined alternator/starter-thing around being developed by Sachs?

Several companies are working on it, but it's 42v so all other car systems, need to either handle 42v, or have a voltage converter after the alternator (at which point you would most likely lose the efficiency gained.
