Recent test at V8 developments:
standard 500 engine 275 bhp & 299 lb ft , with 404 cam & decent trumpets made around 315 bhp & 325 lb ft. ( 10 of which was down to the trumpets , so around 30 bhp from the cam, nothing else was changed !
you will need to re-chip.

I've had a 404 fitted to my SEAC and it's great

There's quite a lot of text and pictures up at
www.tvrcc-bristol.co.uk/reports/main.htm filed under 'Wierd Cam Timing'

Tim posted on a Wedge thread that peak power for a 404 is at 6300rpm

Who makes the 404?

How does it compare to the 218?

How does that compare to V8Ds own MC1 cam?

If you search the Wedge forum for 404 cams, you will find a couple of good cam threads with loads of cam comparisons and input from people who really know what they are talking about....

Can't remember the thread titles off the top of my head, sorry....

A few facts:
The 404 is a V8 Developments cam, ( like the MC1), they are produced by Kent for V8 developments.
The peak power will vary with induction spec , but can peak at up to 6500, on a standard griff 500 around 5800.
Its the first cam to work really well with the 500 heads , in the past heads have been replaced in order to get any torque benefit from cam upgrades.
The cam also has good "manners" and has a very clean idle.
dyno test from a 420 SEAC last week with 404 : 290 bhp & 290 torque with standard SEAC induction! the cam that came out was a 234 which will produce as much bhp but less torque and makes your eyes water when stationary, the car now idles smoothly for the first time in its life.

Whose SEAC was that Tim?
(Just so I know who not to believe at Mania in the traditional making excuses before runway thrash chat)

I've not done many miles with them yet, but I believe it's going to be something like check every minor service and adjust every major service.

I expect Tim will confirm for us.

I know of a Griffith that covered 6000 miles with a 404 and when checked needed no adjustment, only used one myself for 1000 miles so can't give my experiences.

We can supply exchange injectors if you want to save rolling road time by fitting them in advance, otherwise power engineering also do a cleaning service,
you should also consider fitting trumpets to replace the horrible TVR steel tubes that sit within the plenum.

Oh bugger - not Patrick as well - now I really will have to spend some money next winter. Good job I'm moving to Norfolk in the Autumn, about half way between RPI and V8 Dev if I'm not mistaken. All I've got to do is keep it running till then.....

Duncan - how are you finding the performance of
the 404, now that it's run in nicely.

Are you running solid lifters with roller rockers ?

What does it rev to and when does peak power
(or the best change up point seem to be).

Why all the questions - well you know a car never
seems to have enough power does it !
