Few basic 306 questions

Hey.
I've got a 1.6 306 at the moment. Got a couple of tiny problems that are more irritating than serious. Anyone able to shed some light. Btw. can't spend too much!!!
1) The driver's door is always static. Get a shock every time i leave the car. Doesn't bother me but i just got a rather large dose of static and i'm hoping its something easy to rectify.
2) The engine doesn't always idle easily. Every so often speeds up by a few hundred revs or so. Although it doesn't affect the way it drives, im sure theres something a bit wrong...? Don't really want to pay a garage a lot of money if its something minute.
On this subject, would an induction kit help free up the engine a bit?
If it helps, the car's done 78000 miles on a P reg...

Engines that don't idle smoothly like Wynns intake cleaner (trust me on this!) It's about £5 a tin from halfords, dead easy to use.
Induction kits DO NOT help a car run smoothly, and from what I've seen they really don't free up that many horses on normal engines.
As for static, if anyone has an easy solution I'd kill to know it, I'm finding it difficult to approach a car these days as I tend to go flying accross the drive, trailing sparks.

It's not the drivers door (which is electricaly connected to the rest of the body via the hinges) or even the whole car itself which is what many people seem to think. Static shocks are invariably caused by the huge charge you accumulate sliding your bum accross the lovely synthetic seat covers.
The advice about holding onto something metal as ou get out is sound. Any non painted screw or fitting that is attached to the bodywork will do.
Um, no. I just get the shock of the metal earthing thing when I touch that...
Most effective thing I've found is to hold the metal part of the key then touch it to the eart. That way instead of leaping off the car and hitting you at one point the charge hits the key then is spread throughout the skin in contact with the key.
Doesn't stop the shocks, but it hurts a hell of a lot less.

Superflid said: Depends more on what you are wearing. It's too early to remember if it's man-made fibres bad - natural fibres good, or the other way round.
Synthetic fibres are always worse. Natural materials are absorbant and any moisture (from skin etc.) makes them conductive enough not to build static.
i used to get shocks off my escort van all the time,i just put it down to crap build quality. i was probably correct judging from the amount of things that went wrong with it! i.e brakes failing on the a3 sliproad as i was coming off for the m25(car was 9 mths old at the time),rear lights working when they felt like it,2nd gear synchro failing within 45,000mls,ignition jamming after 6 months use,the diesel fuel pump leaking within a month of purchase....i could go on!!
