Fiesta 1.4 1989 valve seal replacement
Discussion
As far as I know it - there is a trade method to save doing this..
and that is to feed plastic washing line into the cylinder thru the spark plug hole whilst raising the piston to top dead centre..
The valve should not now be also to move down because of the washing line - this would allow you to compress the spring, remove collets and replace the rubber seals..
Recompressing the spring may be a tough job though as a conventional spring compressor may not work.

How do you change the valve oil seals on the CVH 1.4 engine? Does the head have to come off? any tips or advice would be a great help.

piece of cake,on the inlet manifold the engine eyes can be wound down the rocker arm to remove the collets,or you can buy the special tool for cvh's there not expensive,no need to though rope down the cylinder just make sure the pistons up.

Knew there was something more modern.. also a tool :
Sealey part no VS 160 - valve spring compressor - also does CVH !
Good luck.
Many thanks for the answers. What stops the valve dropping in to the cylinder bore once you have compressed the spring and removed the collet and the removed the compressor and spring to access the seal ? Plus how do you know that each cylinder is at Tdc.

drop the valve on the piston(make sure its on tdc though)line the timing marks up,or just look down the plug holes to see there on top, change cyl 1and 4 seal's then 2and 3,remebre doing these things years ago,i thought all cvh's were dead now LOL.
