Hi all,

I've been trying to find a suitable digital temperature gauge to measure intake air temperature, the sensor part needs to be fitted into an alloy casting so please bear this in mind, courtenay sport used to sell one but no longer stock them?
Any help appreciated.

I bought a bunch of -20 .. +70 temp gauges designed for greenhouses of something, for temporary use. They are reasonably small with a case that stacks together quite well, so I can just put a pile of them on the dashboard and see the air temps all round the induction and cooling systems. To measure air temp inside a hose I just slip the sensor element in through a hose coupling.

If you want a permanent readout, there are some common 'open bulb' thermister type senders that have the same temp/resistance curve as common coolant temp senders and can be wired up to any suitable temp gauge. You'd need to tap a thread to fit it. I use these ones for coolant and charge temp senders for the ECU.

Maplin do a sutible unit for a whole £10

www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=3261&criteria=temparature%20module&doy=10m10

You will also need to order the external temparature probe and possibly a small plastic box to put it in.

That's a neat little unit.

Ive used this little kit also:

The "super stereo ear" as a knock detector - just extend and glue the microphones to a couple of big croc clips and attach to your engine - works remarkably well.

Taking it a step further - I fitted a temp sensor into my turbo outlet, along with the turbo inlet (~outside air temp) and can calculate my Adiabatic Efficiency and Intercooler efficiency in real time along with datalogging.
