Airbox for V8 multi throttle body LS1
Discussion
Hi folks
Need some advice on a airbox to cover these throttle bodies that were previously running on a drag car but now need to be covered and filtered for a circuit car.
The obvious for me was to fit a box where the trumpets bolt on,however being staggered i'll have to make unequall spacers above the bodies for a flush base.
If I do this however I will not have equall flow from the base of the box to the butterfly openings(20mm at present from below trumpet base)with a 62mm id bore.
I was looking at ramming air via the top to get as much equall dispersion as possible but still doen't know enough about the pro's and cons of different length trumpets and box volume required to feed these babies.
The second option is encompassing the entire manifold/s(seen this on the toyota v6 single seaters)but I don't know the implications of spacing and throwing out the injectors probably 1mm,let alone access to servicible parts.
Any advice appreciated ...

Hello matey, I was just wondering how you were and what you were up to!
I'd have 2 plates laser cut to fit onto each throttle bank and built upwards, inwards, outwards from that

Hi Mike
Still plodding away slowly
I take it you mean you plates/spacers to the head,if so will I have too change the injector seating?
A plate below the throttle bodies wont work and will foul the linkages, also looking at them 90 degrees their splayed approx 15 degrees, hence finding a solution.
Won't be able to reply for a while as ive just moved out to the country, no phones or internet, but the sheep are sexy..

If your thinking of doing a ram-air box, I'd suggest you read this thread - this is probably about the best theory I have seen well explained:-

I meant fit the plates underneath the trumpets.

Thanks for the link Knightly,i'll try and digest it tonight.Still have to get my head around if uneqall trumpet base to butterfly lengths are going to cause a problem.
Chun, the LSX engine in the Sag is standard at the mo for building around and is going in the Chim, but will have a R.E.D Darton 4.125 sleeved block, 3.65 stroke lunati rotating assembly, etp or afr heads, cam undecided untill we see how these tb's breath,it wont be running any front end ancillaries, headers are custom forward facing 1&3/4 similar to Spectrum racings LS6's Ultima ones.
Sag chassis is a very modified Griff/Chim base(would of been cheaper to start from scratch)
Now rapidly running out of money and will have to sell some more toys

I had my eye on those for a while, but they would get too close to my up and forward headers(already have to remote my coil packs)

sounds like a very nice little package you will end up with! what does the 3.65 stroke net you in cudic inches?? how much power are you gunning for (should make an easy 600-650bhp with that lot)??
also have you though about World produsts LSx style heads?? they are supposed to be better than the LS7s and have a list price of sub $2k for the pair assembled!!!
thannks Chris.
PS. you got any pics of the chassis??

If you want heads on a budget, then the Dart's are the best value, at circa $1300 or so.
WOW that is cheap! what are the runner volumes and chaber size of thoes ones steve?? are they assambled??
thanks Chris.
Do a search over on LS1Tech.
Assembled, available in 205cc and 225cc form. Dont recall chamber sizes, but think they are comparable to standard.
Ask Ringram over in the Holden section. He bought a pair for his car.
