Acetone in Fuel
Discussion
This is a topic discussed in various bulletin boards around the web, and I was wondering if anyone had tried it on their car, petrol or diesel.
The claims are 1-3 ml/litre can give 5-10% improved fuel consumption and smoother running.
I find 1ml/litre in my diesel gives me an instant 2-3mpg improvement in fuel consumption and quieter running.

I agree that acetone is a very strong solvent neat, but we are talking about 1000:1 dillution or thereabouts, so it is unlikely to cause any harm at these levels. Apparently the way it works is to free up the surface tension of the fuel dropplets and give even greater fuel atomisation.

They used to use it to stop methanol benzene mixes separating, plus a dash of castor oil.
Not sure about the fuel dropletisation. I know that the small difference between dellortos and webers is (according to vizard) due to droplet size, the A Series engine likes bigger droplets. Realistically, I wouldn't have thought that it would have influenced things in that small a quantity. Again, snake oil, I suspect.
Just looked at the link, load of bollox.
A difference may be gained by the large latent heat of evaporation..........In that amount, it would mess with the calorific value of the fuel and octance rating, etc.
