Missing when cold off boost.

Hello everyone,
Ive been doing some homework into this problem for a week now, but have not made any progress, so I am hoping some of you may have some good ideas for me!
I drive a Nissan 200 SX S13 (1.8T) which I have owned since February.
Car is standard apart from full system exhaust + cone filter. Its on 101k but had a replacement motor at 75k. I upped the boost recently to 14 psi - maybe 5-6 weeks ago and have removed this now. I cant help thinking that this may have had something to do with it, unless its just because its cooler out now.
The symptom is that if I start the car on a colder and possibly damper morning (its fine on a warmer one) it misses sometimes. Its fine on tickover, and if I bring the revs up to about 2200 it drives fine. It is only apparent when the temperature guage starts to move and lasts for roughly 30 secs - 1 minute of driving. Ie, its fine for the first 30 seconds and then starts doing this.
When I say it misses, it does just feel as though there is no power and like the accelerator does nothing, and as though it has fuel one instant, but not the next. I can get round the problem by dipping the clutch and bringing the revs up.
Also, when I come off the gas I can hear a bit of bumbling from the exaust which doesnt normally happen, as if some fuel was coming through?
I changed the plugs this week for some slightly colder ones (7 over standard 6) as recommended by other owners. My hunch is that it is some kind of ecu/sensor but that really is just a guess.
