I have an E46 M3 diff in the back of my SEAT. it's a very very strong unit and has an excellent limited slip diff built in (the M-diff) ,they cost about £400 to £500 from BMW breakers. The downsides are the relatively tall ratio (3.62:1) and weight (42kg)

Lower final drives are availible from german and US BMW tuners however. In terms of torque capacity they are as strong at least as the GrpA 9" ford motorsport diff (which are getting rare and cost ££££'s) and because they have a cast steel casing they are much quieter in operation.
