I'm looking for improved economy and am considering changing my current C6 for the E4OD (4-speed).

Can anyone confirm if this is a simple swap and all bolt holes mate up?

Any change in dimensions?

I believe the latter has electronic shift controls. Is this a simple job for an experienced auto electrician or are we talking custom looms?

Thanks.

for a start dimension wise

looks like its bigger

The electronics are available , not cheap www.ford-aode.com/

Is it really going to be cost effective, are you doing high mileage ?

A good shift kit in the C6 would improve economy

Hi Martin,

In further rearch I found out what you have just stated. Not an economical conversion.

A simpler and far more cost effective conversion seems to be mating a GM 700R4 box to a Ford V8:

Found this: www.700r4inaford.com

Thanks for getting back to me.

if you go down this route, like the web page says - try to get the later post 1987 box. You can tell be the serial numbers. I have quite a bit of information on rebuilding and upgrading these boxes to make them survive behind high power engines if you need it.

Hi Eliot,

An interesting site.

What car is your box going in?

Sounds like you may be using it for some 1/4 mile strip use as it's an auto?

I don't so much require out and out high power/torque handling rather than an overdrive gear to get some better mileage out of my car.

Basically I'm pulling to many revs at present so can either chjange rear axle gearing or go the OD box route. I like the latter idea.

What info do you have regarding the s/n model change?

Thanks

Phil

'Box is in my Dakar 4x4 - with a turbocharged 5.7 chevy in it - which pushes the 700 to the limit.

Another alternative would be a Gear Vendor overdrive that would replace the tailshaft of your C6

I'd forgot about them.

Certainly another option.

Thanks.
