My T350 is dripping oil from the front of the gearbox - out the aperture in the bellhousing at the front/bottom. I thought was the clutch slave, but the AA man said it was gearbox oil.

I'd been finding harder to get gears, mainly first/reverse. Reverse wouldn't happen without a crunch whatever I did (into first gear first etc.). Parked up and saw fluid on drive. Not driven since.

Engine has been out/in twice in past few months, could this have caused the gearbox to pop a seal when lining up the clutch etc? (I noticed the gearchange felt less slick after the first engine in/out).

Dealer is diagnosing tomorrow, hopefully won't take too many weeks to rebuild.

Sorry - don't believe the AA man !

If there is fluid then it will more than likely be the clutch slave cylinder which is behind the clutch in the middle of the bellhousing.

The slave starts to leak because the pressure becomes to much for it.. and the reason for the xs pressure is because some of the clutch fingers will be broken - causing the outer clutch housing to lift off unevenly - more friction / stiction etc..

So - sit back and wait for the 1K bill.

Hope you have one of those AA warranties or a TVR wear and tear warranties..

I have a TVR wear and tear warranty

However, dealer rang this morning - car is fine and ready to be collected. The spent some time looking at the gearbox and clutch - both are fine and not leaking. They have adjusted the gear linkage which has apparently helped with selection.

The oil came from the air filter. It was a new one and they said sometimes they sometimes ooze oil in the heat. It ran down the back of the engine and looked it it was dripping out of the aperture in the bellhousing. I trust the dealer/mechanic, but there was a lot more oil than I'd have expected.

I'm still intrigued why mine did this but nobody has reported a similar 'alarm'.

Collect the car Sat, time to put some more smiles on it
