Am looking to source a 4 speed auto box for Vera - P6 Rover V8 - and someone suggested this works.

Any idea as to prices of used/recon and requirements for fitting would be appreciated.

I have a Jag sourced Hp22 surplus to requirements (as I am now using a Torqueflite) - the main box case and outputs are the same for all 2WD installations. You can easily source a bellhousing (they bolt on) and TC/flexplate etc from a RR or Disco breaker which will then give you exactly what you want. Alternatively, get a complete RR/Disco box and mount the output housing and shaft from a Jag/BMW etc. Otherwise you are looking to find a complete RV8 auto LDV 200/Sherpa riot van/ambulance which also has just what you are looking for but without you having to source parts from various cars.

I paid £25 for the box I have - you can have for the same money if you come and take it away.

Keep hold of that box, please, matey, till I find out if Vera is salvageable or not - see Rover posts.

Spotted this in P5 Club mag:

"Rover Automatic Transmissions (G Whitehouse Autos ) do "convert your classic Rover to Jaguar XJ40 4 speed automatic £3560.00 PLUS VAT FITTED"

Guess what, I think I'd probably do the job for you for that price.

Don't worry about the box - it's not going anywhere at present.

Guess what, Neither is Vera

As the man said "It's Dread, man, dread..." She needs much welding and or replacement sections; fate tbc when we check her out on a ramp on saturday; Missus is giving me the emotional hevs about priorities and stuff, too, which aint helping. On the plus side, there's a mech at the body shop whose dad worked on P6s and who knows a bit about engines & gearboxes. He said the HP22 is " a bit bigger" than the borg warner. Will be in touch asap, Russ
