Use a Toyota Supra (Boost Logic auto) tranny on an amcar?
Discussion
Wouldnt Boostlogic whoever they are be in a better position to answer that ?
I know the manual 6 speed in the Supra, has been proven to well over 800bhp, so I would guess that the standard Toyota Auto would also be pretty tough.
Then, I guess that also depends on what engine you have.

Spool... have you considered using a Glide?
TCI do some boxes that will be more than capable of dealing with the load that you'll put on it!
We run one in the dragster that is rated to 850Hp in a door slammer..

The manual on the Supra was put there because they knew the car would be tuned, however the same logic doesn't apply to the automatic transmission. Most Japanese gearboxes do an admirable job behind the standard engine, but the reason they are not in widespread use in the tuning markets is simply because they just aren't that great at handling torque wth any durability.
If you want a serious automatic then realistically you need something like a GM400 as fitted to numerous Chevys, Jag V12s, Rolls Royces and Bentleys, or it's 4 speed successor, the 4L80E.
If you are going to use a Ford engine then you want a C6 or 4R100, though you can get upgraded 4R70Ws.
Both transmissions are heavily supported by the aftermarket, with high and low K factor converters etc.
Take a ride in a Jag V12 and I think you will be perfectly happy with the 'sophistication' and quality of the shifts.

Hm.. thats plain simple i guess. I wanted something a bit more fancy... just for the sake of it.
But erm, maybe its more hassle though...
Thanx for hints!

id go for something like a tci th350. you get full manual shifting so its like a manual but without the clutch and a transbrake as standard for some real hard launches, id say thats pretty fancy. usually between 700 to 1000 dollars from the likes of jegs or summit in the states. theres also a really good range of shifters which are pretty fancy to.
we use this one
its a joy to use
