Gear Change 944
Discussion
Hello Guys,
I am new to this. my newly owned 1990 944s2 was driving pretty fine (I did 800 kms within 2 weeks) - and then last week, I was on the highway and I was driving in 5th. I tried to come down to 4th and just could not manage - it felt as if there was no slot to put the gear stick in - I pulled over and tried with all the gears and found that it was EXTREMELY difficult to get into any gear - i turned the engine off, and the problem went away, but came back again when the engined ignited.
with extreme difficult and force, I put the gears into place, but there was significant grinding and rubbing noise coming from underneath the engine area (going from 1st to 2nd or from 2nd to 3rd) anyways.. I somwhow managed to reach home.
could anybody pls tell me what happned and what I can do or look for to understand the problem and suggestinos towards fixing it ? I would much appreciate your comments and suggestions
thanks

MMM at first I thought you'd done what I once did and broken the pip off the gear lever, but if it will go in to gear with effort it is clutch, at a guess either your clutch isn't disengaging due to stretched cable/fluid leak/air bubble or shot slave / master cylinder or the release bearing has disintegrated, this rings true with the noise your reporting.
