Rev Counter jumps around...HELP
Discussion
My Rev Counter is jumping about
It's fine on tickover, 900 revs, & over 4500 revs but in between, normal driving, it jumps all over the place. Whats really un-nerving is that 25% of the time it's on 0 revs & the engine warning light & battery light comes on. It dosn't effect the performance but it really is off-putting.
It's got the standard ford ECU plus OMEX 200 management, (Focus 2 litre turbo zetec)
Please, does anyone know what I can do to solve this problem before the weekend? I'm driving 1000 miles over night on Sunday!

Someone who knows how this is wired will have to help, but.
I'm guessing the tacho signal will be coming from the coil or the alternator. The fact that the dash lights are also playing up indicates to me either a failing connection or more likely an intermittent short. You need to start following wires around the engine bay looking for damaged wires.
