engine testing

Hi all,

I've recently been reading www.fuelsaving.info and found some of the technical details fascinating, particularly when the author refers to some of the engine testing he has been involved in.

I wonder if anyone has any web links or personal knowledge about how car engines are tested? I've heard various things such as "Ford rev all engines to redline for 3 weeks before fitting into cars" but nothing more authoratative - the whole area sounds really interesting though.
