Right...here's one for you...the 2.8 and 2.9 Ford Cologne engines are almost interchangable, so far as whole units are concerned and ignoring things like manifold ports , but what about a 4l Cologne engine, is it phsically bigger/heavier etc than the 2.8/2.9 engines or is it more of a stroked/bored version like the different capacities of RV8 engine?

It's bigger, heavier & wider. Not a lot of use then! Keep well away and stick with the rover. That's a much nicer engine, it really is. The ford has no main cap support whereas later rovers are cross bolted. The rover's also much lighter and available in bigger capacities.

It's certainly possible and I know lots of bits are interchangeable.
I used to work with a chap who was really into projects using bits of these engines. Also the guy who bought my 928 off me had a 4 litre cologne in a TVR of some kind.

I'm still in contact with the guy who I used to work with who knows all the strengths and weaknesses of these stalwart Ford V6s, I can pass this thread along to him if you like?

Thanks was just having an "I'm bored at work brain fart", and thought well if it was that easy why doesn't everyone do it, but just thought I'd check.

The only use for it is in my Tasmin, that old chestnut, I'm fed up with the current setup (2.8 V6 mechanical fueling) and fancy a play, don't want a 4pot engine although YB conversions are so easy, as its a series 1 there isnt really enough room to fit a RV8, could go the twin turbo 2.9 V6 route like Cliffs car, the other option is the 2.5 or 3l Duratec mounted to a Getrag 221 (i think) gearbox like the S-type Jags (i think)

Any thoughts? Will the Duratec be a better engine and lighter than the Cologne or just a different variety of hassle? Did Joo ever get anywhere with his diesel conversion idea, hmm a VAG TDi Tasmin...
