Anyone had any dealings with mechanics/technicians that deal with Ford V8's in and around the Surrey area? I'm looking for someone to set up a fairly standard 1980's 302ci car running a 750cfm Holley carb. Seems that it's a bit of an 'art' to get them fuelling correctly.

Look for a holley specialist and somebody who knows that the main jets aren't for WOT. If they don't know about pvcr's (power valve channel restrictions) then don't use them.

I know it`s not Surrey area but ICE Automotive(racing engines) up near Silverstone are arguably the best in the country. Rob Loaring is the main man there.......top bloke. Holley carbs are straight forward enough, what seems to be the problem?

Basically the car is set up for the track and I think has over sized jets for road use. Also there is a split in the spacer between the carb and the manifold which needs replacing. Really just needs someone who can identify the carb, has the bits to replace the [wrong] items and knows about adjusting them - it runs rich at tickover, normal through the rev range and very lean at the top end.

Rich at tickover dould be a number of things, probably just a high float level. Over sized jets would make it run rich at 3/4 throttle. Lean at the top end (wot) would most likely be the power valve channel restrictions not being big enough or a faulty powervalve (not opening). It would be helpful to you if you started by fitting a vacuam guage to the car. Then you would be able to determine if you have the correct P/v.

Thanks for the info - and have found a man who can - he looked at the parts and shook his head with dismay - couldn't work out why a four barrel carb, two barrels feeding each bank of pistons would have a single sqaure hole spacer which nulified the effect of the idle adjusting screws etc. Took it out and fitted to carb direct to the manifold and the running improved immediately. I have now obtained a 1" ported four barrel spacer and will fit as soon as delivered, and ordered stateside a 2" to compare torque differences.

Primary chokes feed all the cylinders regardless of the shape of the spacer plate. Secondary chokes also feed all cylinders once they open. Still, at least you can feel an improvement What intake manifold have you got?

From what I can see it's a standard Ford issue unit - for now !!
