Oil pressure Q...
Discussion
The engine is a Nissan SR20DE (non-turbo). Basically if I start the car from cold, the oil pressure is perfect - starts off pegged at 80+psi cold dropping to 30 ish hot idle. But every now and then, on a hot start it struggles to make any pressure at all on the guage. Its a bit variable but the guage can sit around 0 at idle and never get over 30 at revs. Sometimes if I stop and restart it the guage reads normally again. The idiot lamp never comes on... is it liley to be a genuine pressure problem or just a gremlin in the sender/guage?

With the problem correcting itself when you restart the engine it would make me think that there is something up with the gauge, especially if the light does not come on and your gauge us reading 0 at idle (if that were true then the light should come on)
Can you swap the gauge or borrow one to test?
