Have you broken yours? - Dont tell me, lost 3rd and 4th....
Hi, no i don't have a gearbox at all just a complete LS1 pull out engine with everything still attached to it. Was thinking of the manual T56 box but it's going into an immaculate SD1 VDP EFi, so i thought i'd keep it the same spec i.e. automatic.
Does the 4L60E have an issue with 3rd and 4th gears?
By the way what do these gearboxes shift like, are they as smooth as say the old electronic ZF4HP24?
What ecu are you using ??
Dont forget these autos are controlled by the ecu, and if you purchased from a manual car, the ecu may need programmed with the auto info for the box. ( or it may already contain this, not too sure. )
Ask over on the Holden forum about that, or indeed LS1Tech.com

Evening Stevie
I think you can buy stand alone ecu's for the 4l60 which allow mappable shift points and firmness. This may be an option?

Yes, there are several aftermarket controllers for that box, although I would say your first port of call should be the factory setup. Ive got the details of others if your'e interested. Or you could fit a 700r4, which is the non electronic version of the 4l60e
Cant comment about the oem shift feel, as A)never driven the electronic one B)never driven the non electronic one in its stock form. Essentially you can have it however you like, If you want it smooth - just leave it as OEM spec.
3-4 clutch is weak in these, although it should stand up ok behind a stock LS1. There's plenty of aftermarket upgrades for these, I think I may of found the best combo after killing several.

Hi, i wouldn't mind the new GM 6 speed auto box but the dam thing runs on a CAN system like what Merc and ZF have been using for years. I spoke to a gearbox designer from Jaguar USA whom politely pointed out that this or any other auto box that runs on CAN won't work properly unless the original factory engine setup i.e. (engine/gearbox/loom/ecu from the new Corvette was used)
I think someone mentioned that an electronics engineer did couple a 5spd ZF auto box to an LS1 engine, but could never get it to work properly because ZF wouldn't supply the information he need.

It's being worked around as we speak so there may be a solution in a while. This looks like a very strong box but I think the shift will be slow.

Good info Eliot! Do you know if a transbrake conversion has been fitted to the 4l60/80? Is it even possible? Reason I wonder is I like the idea of a transbrake but I'd also like a box with overdrive.

You're transbrake obsessed now Mike!!
Next time you're anywhere near our car, we'll try to show you a warm up with the transbrake test.

Thanks for the help Mike, when you do hear of a solution i'd be grateful if you would let me know please. In the mean time i'll stick with a 4L60e that's if i can find one
